How to Clean Shower Heads With CLR

Even if you are super conscious about removing dust and dirt, hard water may still leave stains on your shower head and block its holes.

Various ways are there to clean your shower head and to remove the accumulated debris. However, if mineral-rich or hard water has caused the blockage, you will need to use a chemical method to remove the stain.

One of these methods is by using CLR.

Do not know what it is?

Well, CLR is the abbreviation of Calcium, Lime, and Rust remover. It is the safe, secure, and fastest way to make the showerhead work well again.

The Cleaning Process

There are two techniques that you can use to clean the showerhead with CLR.

By Removing The Head

The first step is to remove the whole thing completely.

Now keep it aside and mix the CLR in. CLR Calcium Dust & Dirt Remover should be equal in amount to that of water. So create the 50/50 mixture of CLR and water, and soak it in this mixture for a few minutes.

You will see the formation of bubbles which is the clear indicator of the chemical reaction. In other words, the bubble shows that everything is going fine and it is getting cleaned.

If there is an accumulation of heavy crust on it, you should take an old brush to brush it.

After complete removal of the debris, take out the showerhead from the CLR mixture and rinse it thoroughly with clean water. Make sure to use the cold water to see the maximum output.

The last step?

Attach the head back to the hose and start taking a shower.

Leaving Everything Intach

The first step is missing in this method. In other words, you do not need to detach the whole thing.

All you need to do is to make the CLR Calcium, Lime & Rust Mixture in a large mixture. Make sure to use the fairly large bowl so that you can submerge the head in it.

Hold the bowl and submerge it, and as you have not detached the showerhead, you will have to wait for some time while holding the bowl. The next procedure of using the old brush to tidy up the heavy crust is the same.

After you have attained the maximum cleaning, you can refill the bowl with clean and cold water and wash.

It is better to wait again and let it soak in for 3-4 minutes.

Pro-tip

If you do not want to hold the bowl, you can simply turn on the shower and let the cold water run through the holes for a few minutes. The pressure of the cold water will automatically clean everything.

The Bottom Line

Cleaning the showerhead with CLR is a very fast and effective process. It can keep your showerhead clean and efficient for a month. So it is better to consider the CLR cleaning at least once a month.
